Camping In Maine

Sketches from a journal of a camping trip, drawn & written after the fact. 1. We arrive, parking the car in the trees. 2. My friend’s daughter slept through the whole car ride the prior night, so woke much earlier than we were ready to. Eventually we left the tent and ate breakfast at the picnic table. 3. I squatted by the dwindling fire and failed to adequately cook a Native American recipe, the little girl filmed the proceedings & played newscaster with her camera, and the the rain got worse and we erected protection over the table. 4. The rain became a downpour, and we eventually decided to pack it in; I donned a clear plastic emergency poncho and helped ferry everything back to the car. It was a delightful trip, which is why I felt compelled to document it afterward (though more in words than pictures).

Clutter Clearance 09-20-07

1. My desk with lots of clutter - this was actually after I’d cleared a lot of stuff off, and just before I replaced it with a drawing table (it’s hard to clutter a sloped surface). 2. A small strip showing a bookcase shelf falling on my foot.

Doodle People

1. Trees in a forest, a fat woman, a table, a strange creature, a paranoid man in flannel with satellite-dish hat, a pipe-smoking man in cloak & hood, and a couple abstract designs. 2. Simple cartoon people: a blond man in t-shirt, jean & sneakers with a bag; and an elf, or maybe a man or woman with bandana. 3. A smiling woman in a tank top, with dark curly hair, gesturing in front of the door of a building. 4. A folk-dancing punk. 5. A slightly eerie bald man in a vest.

First Convention Sketches

I drew these sketches during the first comics convention I tabled at. Sketcin’ Safari: A man in glasses and shorts using a pencil to surf a wave in the ocean. Yes! Comics!: a bald cartoon man who’s very excited about comics. Breaktime: a mechanical brain with arms & legs jumps out of the head of a man. Monster Eating Child: just what it says (I was hired to do an illustration on the basis of this sketch turning up in a Google search). Lightning Polka: a man in lederhosen & sunglasses shoots lightning from his accordian.

Vacation Bees

Monster Eating Man

crushpad-scan-100.jpgIllustration for a San Francisco wine company’s ad campaign. I drew & colored the picture of the monster eating the man; all the text & layout are by the company (the bottom half with all the text is actually the back of the postcard). They requested something like my Monster Eating Child sketch, which they found in a Google search.
